Unlike most Kiln the King collections, which feature our signature arrow, club or spear finials, this set is crowned with the timeless cross, paying homage to the historic forms that have defined chess for centuries.
The inspiration for this collection comes from deep-sea archaeology, where centuries beneath the ocean have allowed barnacles and marine growth to transform lost ceramics into extraordinary natural sculptures. Capturing this effect required the development of a unique glaze, created through extensive testing in our London studio.
The contrasting white-speckled and black-speckled stoneware glazes evoke the textures of weathered artefacts recovered from the sea, giving each piece a distinctive surface that is both tactile and visually striking.
